Here’s how the booth went from sketches to standing in two days – with a lot of help from some incredible friends, tutors and technicians.
Following the decision to make Side 2 a private booth, the plan was a simple wooden frame with fabric curtains.

Katie spent hours cutting and hemming the four noren-style curtain panels – the show wouldn’t have happened without her.

The next morning I ironed all the fabric and took it to a local printer who carefully heat pressed the text directly onto the front two panels of the soon-to-be booth. It was a challenge to ensure the text height was centred and exactly the same distance from the bottom seam.

The wooden materials arrived at CSM on Weds lunchtime and Mike, CSM technician, was incredible at fine tuning the assembly of the frame.

A lighter pine wood panel with supports was cut to form the bench which was there to hold the pens, ear-plugs, questions, clicker.

Jonathan then kindly assisted with the curtains which were aligned at the bottom and stapled in place to the top of the frame.

The front panels were added last.

We decided against using the wooden dowel rod at the base of the side panels as the wind created some nice movement in the curtains. This was advantageous for two reasons:
- It disguised the fact the bottom of the front panels weren’t completely aligned
- It made the enclosed space more inviting as passers by can glance in to get an idea of what the project is about
The reverse side of the A-frame featured 12x pre-completed forms. I initially used spray-mount to attach these but it didn’t feel secure enough and so decided to revert to using simple small pins which actually felt the most honest to the material.

And applied the CAD cut vinyl headline question to capture attention of passers by.

Overall it was a joy to see it all coming together so quickly and I’m incredibly grateful to have all the support and guidance that I had. Thank you Katie, Mike, Jonathan, Betty & Ben for all your help and expertise!
