Time yourself into timelessness
I was recently re-reading Osho’s book, The Empty Boat, where he claims that if you put a watch with a second hand in front of you and try to keep your attention on it, you’ll fail almost immediately. Fifteen seconds, twenty, thirty at most – then the mind slips off into some other thought, and you forget you were ever watching. Holding awareness unbroken for even a single minute, he says, is genuinely hard.

Notes on the next edition of ThoughtCounter
I’ve been thinking about how to expand the next edition of Thought Counter beyond the 60-second investigation.
The challenge since the first iteration is how to create meaningful change after the investigation. What follows are a few ideas I’m exploring – a zine, audio guidance, a guided meditation takeaway – each one a different attempt to offer that next step.

Engaging users after the initial ThoughtCounter investigation
I had a conversation with one of my meditation teachers, Renata, about using a choice-based flow after the initial 60-second ThoughtCounter investigation, and how to create meaningful change. The mind likes to choose, so the idea for this is that every step offers a binary or short-list option.

Post show ideas for the next iteration
It’s clear that people are genuinely curious about their own thoughts, and I was really happy with how the messaging drew them in entirely unprompted.
Now the show and our low residency week is over, a number of ideas and themes are emerging for me to explore in the next stage.
